Google and blogger play: watch the blogs go by

I was posting when I noticed, running across, another new feature and functionality by Google on "Google buzz" (The bullettin board breaking news about Blogger directly from the Blogger team at Google.) http://buzz.blogger.com/

Blogger play is an online application for showing a random gallery of photos as they're posted by blogger's users and always up to date. A never ending stream of photos by bloggers: motion and still motion!
The concept has some taste attaining to philosophical and religious matters: think to the images raised by Hesse's Siddharta!

It seems very interesting and I've begun thinking a bit of its possible developments and consequences.

After all, with different hi-tech companies competitors launching their slideshow tools for web users in the current Web 2.0 arena (as known Google itself has long ago acquired the Picasa application) this move was on one hand to be expected, but on the other contains definetely important elements of novelty (such as, for istance, random and massive collaboration aspects).

It's sure another evidence of the amazing cleverness and hard working of Googgle Labs, even if sometimes passing through the inevitable and physiological setbacks or leaks and bugs of testing stages (I'm thinking to the debut of these page themselves (I started using blogger around the end of 2006 and then different problems made it practically unusable), on which I'm currently writing perfectly with no problem.

You can find the application at the following link: http://play.blogger.com/

The user can always opt not to show his/her own photos as a privacy option.

Enjoy with Blogger play and let the blogs go by !

Management and Buyout conference in Milan

Today's attendance of Management & buyout.

Conference hosted by Intesa Sanpaolo Private banking in Milan.

A conference about how men, assets, capitals and governance can assist the devolopement of business enterprises (above all the medium-sized one) thanks to the contribution of Private equity operations.

A conference organized by Atema and AIFI, supported by Crescendo, with the contribution of the consulting company Governance Consulting.

Among the others, at the outset hat been discussed in particular how the role and the functions of temporary managers in Italy aren't yet so well developed, recognised and rewarding as they're in anglo-saxon countries, in spite of the fact that more of italian TMs are striving inspired by their determination, never ending enthusiasm to do their best, for achieving top performance results under stressfull and risky situations.

The conference has seen the intervention of some important persons in charge of private equity companies world, showing both some examples of financial operations, and of the human factor and the importance of these factors in achieving successful results. It closed with a roundtable.

This is one of my many attendances at seminars, conferences, workshops and similars on managerial topics (as well as on business consulting, accounting and legal topics and issues). A series I began in 1996 ( my intention is to set up a well organized list about them).

Italian style in emerging countries - Workshop in Milan

Yesterday I attended the workshop: “Italian style in emerging countries: mith or reality ? “, in the context of “World Marketing & Innovation Forum” (http://www.hsm-it.com/wmif/) . It was held at the new Milan fair center of Rho-Pero, Congressi Center “Stella Polare”, and organized by the International Fashion & Luxury Committee of MIP, Politecnico di Milano School of Management, in collaboration with the management consulting company Value Lab.
The workshop focused on the purchasing behaviour of luxury goods by consumers of the emerging countries, analyzing in particular China, India and Russia.
It has been tryed to better understand the meaning of “luxury” to the emerging countries consumers, trying possibly to give a definition of the term.
Some experts and responsibles of italian firms in this field took part at the meeting, showing some aspects of the success of the firms which they belong to.
Special guest of the event was Lyn Heward of “Cirque du soleil”, who spoke about “Creativity and talent management as a key factor of success of the Italian Style” with a really inspiring and stirring illustration.
A remarkable aspect that has been drawn during the meeting is that even if the “brand” of Italy associated with luxury and fashion products is a well known and renowned one all over the world (though sometimes some entrepreneurs themselves are not always fully aware of) it’s necessary not to take for granted anything, for the global competition in this field is very high. Still, it’s required a great deal of study and research on this topic (which the above mentioned Committee, for istance, is aimed to), as well as of massive investments by entrepreneurs, in order to understand and meet the different tastes, perceptions and purchaing habits of the emerging eastern countries consumers. So, only with a steady and organized commitment, not resting but striving for success, the italian brands of luxury will be able to conquer the consensus of the growing number of emerging countries middle and upper class consumers.

Managing advertising in italian local institutions: an opportunity and not a burden

Yesterday, monday 7 march, I attended a conference in Milan, organized by Lattanzio & Associati (an italian consulting firm specalised in the Public Administration sector and New Public Management issues).

It was focused on the topic of Advertising for italian local institutions and its management, that has to be seen as an opportunity and not as a “burden”.
After the introduction by Ezio Lattanzio, Partner of the Professional consulting firm, the respective managers of the two major municipalities of Italy: Rome and Milan (Dr.ssa. Marinelli and Dr. Ricci), have been showing the overall situation regarding probems and opportunities that they, as persons in charge, and their staff had to face and manage. It has been hinted to the so called PGI (acronym that stands for General Plan relating to the Advertising facilities), as well as to the recently issued new local regulation.

Has followed the intervention of the Mayor of Rho municipality, Dr.ssa Pessina, who has shown the situation as regards to the area falling under her jurisdiction, in the set of the new scenary offered by the new built “Polo fieristico di Rho-Pero” and of new challenges they had to face in this field as an effect of the new Milan fair, as well as of the opportunities offered by the Europe’s bigger fair facility, conceived and designed by architect Fucksas.

After the intervention of some other local authorities and persons in charge of managing the local advertising sector, the morning phase of the conference closed with an interesting case of marketing applied by a local institution; the Project "brand of Venice", that has been shown by the person in charge himself: Dr. Madricardo. This case has differentiated with respect to the previous ones, (which based mainly on an analysis of the situation and action undertaken in the administrative set of rules), configuring as a “proactive”, marketing oriented, scheme, aimed at collecting valuable sources of income for the municipality of Venice, thanks to the spread of the recently conceived brand “marchio di Venezia”. The brand can rely on the global notoriety and prestige of the city of Venice, represented by the well known winged lion, re-designed ad hoc.
Useless to note the prevailing marketing issues and orientation of this latter action, configuring a remarkable example for Italy local institutions of art cities, already set up in the past by some other important cities in the world, but never forgetting not to impact on the fragile frame of a unique city as Venice is.

The overall conference has been coordinated by Maurilio Sartor, member of Lattanzio & Associati.

The afternoon phase of the conference has been devoted to a round table where took part some managers of important italian local institutions, which has set up a benchmarking on the topics of how are managed the sources coming from advertising; the Rules on the topic of advertising and the above mentioned PGI.
The last stage has regarded the initiatives of change and how to implement them: here is taking over the role of the professional consultant.

CIO.com - Why You Should Collaborate

In an interview with CIO, futurist Don Tapscott explains the implications of online collaboration and how innovation via the Internet will change the CIO role.

The best ideas for your business might come from someone who doesn't even work for you. That's the contention made by author and consultant Don Tapscott in his newest book, Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything. Tapscott, along with coauthor Anthony D. Williams (who teaches at the London School of Economics), believes that the pervasiveness of the Internet will usher in an era where companies will lower their proprietary barriers and collaborate to foster greater innovation. As people employ instant messaging, blogs, wikis and other Web-based applications to communicate and develop ideas, Tapscott believes the Internet will become a platform on which companies will be forced to seek external talent in order to solve their greatest challenges.

A very interesting article full of ideas, tech trends and subject for discussions

The increasing importance of IT is becoming a vital topic to the board of directors.

“Maximizing performance through IT strategy”: so is titled the latest Report by Deloitte consulting. This latter is the result of a research initiative aimed at exploring how board of directors are approaching IT.

It seems long time has passed since Big Blue (IBM) has been adopting podcast technology to update its staff in order to improve collaboration and effectiveness, and inevitably the importance of IT has ranked to the top of organization hierarchies (to use an old-fashioned and bureaucratic definition).

So, the IT topic has become an hot one and an increasing number of directors is becoming aware of its intrinsic value.

The research has pointed out how IT strategy, combined with an appropriate set of indicators aiming at measuring and monitoring the value of IT implementations, correlates to better business performance.

Yet Directors often lack adequate information on IT strategy. The negative consequence is that IT lack effectiveness in supporting business.

Once the board has understood and has become aware of IT importance (this trend is ongoing), the next step should be devoted to talking about it in the boardroom. The board directors have to work out the most appropriate methodology and a set of indicators aiming at measuring and monitoring the value of IT in their companies.

Last, but not least, from the above follows the importance of introducing into companies the functions of Chief information officers (CIO) and Chief technology officers (CTO) serving as a connection with the Board itself, in order to forward the IT department requests, in a plain, intelligible language and not in the technical IT jargon.

The overall hints and procedure will result in a maximed performance of the company, achieved through IT strategy and its optimised implementation.

To read the introduction to the Deloitte's Report, on which the above piece of writing is based:
Maximizing performance through IT strategy, where you can also download the Report in pdf format.

Marketing reloaded

Friday, March 30 took place at Politecnico di Milano a very interesting event: a conference about how Web 2.0 marketing is changing the relationship between corporate marketing trends and consumers requests and expectations. Its attracting and quite fascinating name: "Marketing reloaded".

The conference is connected with the introduction of the homonym book by Boaretto A., Noci G., Pini F.
Unfortunately I couldn't attend the event, but had anyway the pleasure of reading a very interesting article about the book and its insight on these trends, on the April number of "L'impresa" magazine (currently published again by "Il Sole 24 Ore").
This latter has focussed and based on an analysis of the Italian case. In my opinion a very good and interesting trend that is emerged is that companies are more and more addressing, devoloping and basing their marketing and product orientations and politics toward an increasing real approval of customers needs and expectations about the product/service being offered.

Whoever is interested, please visit the website http://www.marketingreloaded.com , where it's also possible to download the white papers of the event, in italian.
